Situation at the ZF Group

Question for written answer  E-001707/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Sandra Pereira (The Left)

The multinational ZF Group is one of the world’s largest car systems manufacturers. It operates all over the world, employing roughly 165 000 people, and made EUR 43.8 billion in sales in 2022. It operates 168 production locations in 32 countries, according to its website.

The website also shows how important the company is in the Alto Minho region, where it employs around 2 000 people. Over the years, with the help of huge amounts of public funding, the multinational has developed and expanded its business.

Staff and the region were surprised recently when news broke that the company allegedly intended to sell its factories in Portugal.

The reported plans raise concerns in a region that has few employment opportunities and is under pressure from depopulation.
