In July 2022, the EU and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding that envisages EU imports of natural gas from Azerbaijan doubling by 2027.

• 1.What is the Commission’s view on the risk of Azerbaijan selling natural gas to the EU and importing it from Russia for its own consumption, which would be a circumvention of the ban on importing Russian natural gas into the EU?
• 2.What is it doing to ensure that no sanction evasion takes place through the EU-Azerbaijan gas deal?
