Spotlight Initiative
13.9.2023
Question for written answer E-002646/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Olivier Chastel (Renew)
The Spotlight Initiative was launched in 2017 by the European Union as part of a four-year global partnership with the United Nations. The initiative aims to tackle violence against women and girls, especially those who are marginalised and vulnerable. The European Court of Auditors Special Report 21/2023 highlighted the initiative’s impact on certain geographical areas, although it remains limited due to the programme’s short time frame.
- 1.What monitoring and evaluation mechanisms will be put in place to ensure the sustainability of the progress made and to compensate for the short duration of the initiative?
- 2.In this context, will the Commission launch a new initiative to meet the ambitions of the Spotlight Initiative and allow it to be implemented in the long term?
