Increase of working hours in Greece
5.10.2023
Question for written answer E-002956/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Ernest Urtasun (Verts/ALE)
A few weeks ago, we learned that the Greek Parliament had approved the reform of the Code of Individual Labour Law. The reform allows workers to combine full-time with part-time work, increasing the maximum daily working time to 13 hours. The reformed law also establishes the concept of the six-day work week.
- 1.Bearing in mind that Article 6 of the Working Time Directive states that working time for each seven-day period, including overtime, should not exceed 48 hours, what is the Commission’s view of this law reform in Greece?
- 2.Taking into account the proposals put forward by the European Commission in recent years to improve working conditions, increase wages, reduce the gender gap and improve labour rights in sectors such as digital platforms and care, in line with the European Pillar of Social Rights and its action plan, does the Commission believe that this reform is at odds with the social and inclusive Europe that it promotes?
