Middle East and consequences of the war

Question for written answer  E-003380/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Loucas Fourlas (PPE)

There is a real possibility of even greater flows of migrants, on this occasion as a result of the war in Israel and the Gaza Strip; Cyprus’s capacities, however, have already been exhausted.

With the attack by terrorist organisation Hamas on Israel, the situation in the wider region remains volatile and the EU must be present and alive to the rapid developments. There appears to be no end in sight to this tragedy, and thousands are attempting to flee the conflict zone. The question of refugees and migrants has therefore taken centre stage once again: front-line countries such as Cyprus can no longer manage the issue, given its enormous proportions.

1. What specific measures does the Commission plan to take to support resettlement efforts?

2. Are there resources available now to provide immediate support to people fleeing war in that region?
