Digital Services Act
8.12.2023
Question for written answer E-003598/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Chris MacManus (The Left)
It has been reported, and confirmed by the Commission, that on 23 November 2023 Irish regulators contacted the Commission to activate a trigger mechanism under the Digital Services Act in light of the racist riots that recently broke out in Dublin city centre, coordinated and organised, at least to some degree, through social media.
- 1.Can the Commission outline in detail the exact chain of events it was involved in beginning on the evening of 23 November 2023, as well as the actions it took on that evening and in the following days under the powers granted to it by the Digital Services Act?
- 2.Can it share the number and names of social media providers it communicated with, or oversaw communications with, through the Irish regulator during this period and report on the actions taken by each social media company as a result of the domestic/EU interventions?
- 3.Can it confirm whether there is any evidence that the Irish language was used to avoid moderation and, if this is not the case, can it outline the origin of the claim?
