2018 will be the European Year of Cultural Heritage, which is important for the promotion of European cultural diversity, richness and history.

At the same time, on 12 July 2016, President Juncker and the Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang, launched the EU-China Tourism Year, which will also be held in 2018.

Taking into account the importance of the European Year of Cultural Heritage initiative as a tool for promoting European identity and values, and in order to ensure greater visibility and sustainability of financing, it would seem advisable to have only one initiative at once.

1. Can the Commission explain why it is so important for Europe to hold the EU-China Tourism Year in the same year as the European Year of Cultural Heritage?

2. How will the Commission simultaneously manage both initiatives and ensure their successful achievement?

3. Is the Commission planning to create synergies between the activities of both initiatives?

4. How does the Commission intend to provide enough visibility to the two concurrent initiatives?
