Scope for the EU to counter US economic pressure on Denmark and Greenland

Priority question for written answer P-000178/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Per Clausen (The Left)
US President-elect Donald Trump has now repeatedly threatened Denmark with economic sanctions and has refused to rule out taking military action if his colonialist fantasies of annexing Greenland are opposed.
It is important that a clear signal be sent that an economic assault on one EU country will be met with a united response.
Accordingly:
- 1.What specific tools does the EU have for countering the threat of US economic pressure on one or more EU countries if it does not bow to its arbitrary and neo-colonial demands?
- 2.If the US suddenly decided inter alia to impose additional tariffs on Danish products and services and exert other forms of economic pressure because of the conflict over Greenland, how quickly would the EU be able to react?
- 3.If the US suddenly exerted economic pressure on Denmark and Danish interests, including through new and extraordinary tariffs, would the EU act automatically or would the Danish Government have to ask for action to be taken?
