In the light of the Commission’s decision to withdraw the proposal for the horizontal equal treatment directive from the Commission work programme due to a lack of support from the Council:

• 1.Can the Commission provide a detailed explanation of the reason behind the withdrawal of the proposal, given that a lack of unanimity in the Council was not a reason to abandon the proposal in the past?
• 2.What were the Council’s main arguments against the proposal and how did the Commission respond to those arguments?
• 3.What concrete actions does the Commission plan to take to continue this important work and to seek unanimity in the Council?
