Competitiveness of European airlines
1.4.2026
Priority question for written answer P-001343/2026
to the Commission
Rule 144
Nadine Morano (PPE)
The war in Iran and the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz have led to a sharp rise in oil and kerosene prices, which have reached USD 200 per barrel.
Many airlines, particularly European ones, whose profit margins are structurally unstable, have already reported a 15 to 20 % hit to their earnings and announced a hike in ticket prices.
These challenges compound those caused by airspace restrictions in the Middle East, which are considerably increasing journey times.
With this in mind, and given that flight routes are vital for European citizens living in the outermost regions, could the Commission answer the following question:
What action has it taken or does it intend to take to support European airlines in dealing with the consequences of the war in Iran?
