WRITTEN QUESTION P-6406/09

to the Commission
Paying by Visa card in Denmark costs a few percent more than paying by the Danish debit card, Dankort. Danish shops, restaurants, hotels and parking meters add a surcharge of between 3 % and 5 % to payments using non-Danish debit and credit cards, such as Visa and MasterCard.
Does the EU accept discrimination against foreign payment cards in Denmark?
Does the EU accept the fact that Denmark gives its own card companies preferential treatment by imposing a higher charge on foreign cards which are used in Denmark?
