Question for written answer P-004293-14
to the Commission
Rule 117
Younous Omarjee (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  Application of the review clause on the allocation of ERDF and ESF funding to Mayotte
 Answer in writing

A lump sum of EUR 200 million has been allocated to Mayotte, an outermost region, under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF) programmes for 2014-2020. Had the criteria for NUTS II regions in Europe simply been applied as they stand, however, Mayotte should have received more than EUR 450 million.

The French Government says that the shortfall of EUR 250 million can be made up when the review clause (Recital 79 and Article 92) in the General Regulation governing the Structural Funds is applied.

Can the Commission confirm that the missing EUR 250 million will in fact be allocated to Mayotte when the review clause is applied?

If not, can the Commission explain exactly how the review will work in Mayotte’s case? How much more funding is Mayotte likely to receive?
