Parliamentary question - P-006945/2014(ASW)Parliamentary question
P-006945/2014(ASW)

Answer given by Mr Cioloş on behalf of the Commission

Direct compensation for natural disasters does as such not fall within the scope of the Common Organisation of Agricultural Markets. The main purpose of the measures introduced after the Russian embargo is to reduce pressure on those markets most affected by the import restrictions. In the fruit and vegetables sector this is done by means of measures such as withdrawal for free distribution, green harvesting and non-harvesting; in the case of the dairy sector by providing support for the opening of private storage and by extending the period for public intervention.

Member States may furthermore make use of the possibilities for support provided within the framework of the EU legislation on state aid[1] and de minimis aid[2].

The Commission is monitoring closely the market developments of all sectors concerned and will take additional measures when and if required.
