Jean Arthuis (ALDE)
On 8 January 2016, the Commission launched an inquiry into possible price-fixing in the pork, beef and dairy sectors in France, following a number of round-table meetings organised by the French agriculture minister. In the absence of any specific action on the part of the EU, the purpose of these meetings was to look for answers to help get the farming sector out of the serious crisis it is currently experiencing.
The French farming sector, which is on the verge of collapse, is extremely concerned about the inquiry and cannot understand why the Commission is approaching this matter with such bureaucratic zeal.
Could the Commission state the reasons behind its decision?
