Parliamentary questions

18 December 2019
Priority question for written answer
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Rule 138
Niels Fuglsang
Subject:  Russian jet fuel supplied to the conflict region in Syria via EU ports

The answer given on 29 November 2019 on behalf of the Commission regarding Russian jet fuel supplied to the conflict region in Syria via EU ports prompts a number of follow-up questions.

The Commission stated that, as far as it was concerned, it had already allocated more staff and resources to support the design, interpretation and implementation of the relevant measures. When precisely were more staff and resources allocated, and what volume of additional staff and resources has been allocated?

The Commission also stated that new Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis would focus on ensuring the effectiveness of the EU sanctions regimes. What are the reasons for this transfer of responsibilities from the EU’s new High Representative, Josep Borrell, to Valdis Dombrovskis?

What is the basis for the transfer, and what grounds are there for believing that the change will make the EU sanctions regimes more effective?
