Food standards in trade negotiations between the US and the EU
29.1.2020
Priority question for written answer P-000537/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Anna Cavazzini (Verts/ALE)
Commissioner Hogan said on 20 January 2020 that the EU and the US could relaunch talks on a free trade agreement if the EU agrees to drop certain regulatory barriers to US agricultural products. It was described as a way of bringing agricultural issues to the table during future US-EU trade talks.
- 1.Which exact areas or standards is the Commission considering a compromise on?
- 2.What would be the timeline for these talks?
- 3.How will the Commission ensure full transparency and make certain that European standards are not lowered?
