Coronavirus cases in the EU

Priority question for written answer P-000606/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Joanna Kopcińska (ECR), Beata Szydło (ECR)

It has been confirmed that the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) can be passed from person to person. The incubation period is currently 2-12 days, but to be on the safe side, and for practical reasons, a 14-day observation period is recommended.

With that in mind:

Is the Commission planning to take coordinated action to establish uniform procedures for the diagnosis of coronavirus in EU nationals and people arriving in the EU?

If the virus begins to spread in the EU, what steps is the Commission intending to take to identify carriers of the virus and people with whom they have come into close contact, how is it planning to ensure rapid access to diagnostic tests, and what form will those take?

Although there are currently no specific medical treatments for coronaviruses, certain antiviral drugs could relieve some symptoms of the infection. Can the Commission let Parliament know about any measures designed to ensure urgent and accelerated clinical trials of antiviral drugs?
