Parliamentary question - P-001004/2020(ASW)Parliamentary question
P-001004/2020(ASW)

Answer given by High Representative/Vice-President Borrell on behalf of the European Commission

The EU has taken note of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor‘s announcement on the conclusion of her preliminary examination into the situation in Palestine. The EU has always been a staunch supporter of the ICC as an independent and impartial judicial institution with no political objectives to pursue, stressing that the Court's proceedings are legal processes that should run their course.

The EU will continue to voice the EU’s strong support for the ICC in multilateral fora and in bilateral dialogues, insisting on the need to protect its neutrality and judicial independence.

The ICC is a core body in the international system of criminal justice. The EU will also continue its comprehensive assistance — political, financial and technical — to support and strengthen the effective functioning of the ICC and the protection of its independence.
