Parliamentary questions

P-001554/2020
Priority question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Daniela Rondinelli, Fabio Massimo Castaldo, Isabella Adinolfi, Mario Furore
Subject: Immediate measures concerning the Coronavirus

The COVD-19 epidemic risks turning into an unprecedented global tragedy, with enormous health, economic and social consequences, leading to a real risk of recession on a European and global scale.

Even our democracies are at risk. Everything depends on the timeliness, proportionality, effectiveness and the adoption of common measures to block, or at least slow down, contagion as well as on the availability of trained personnel and appropriate equipment to treat all patients in need. For this reason, it is essential to allow Member States to invest all resources available and necessary to contain and combat COVID-19.

In light of this crisis which is unprecedented in the modern age, I should be grateful if the Commission would answer the following questions:

1. Does the Commission intend to put pressure on the Member States to adopt a single European health protocol aimed at identifying all those infected — even those with mild symptoms or showing no symptoms — and to provide common measures to treat patients according to their severity?

2. Will it ask the Council for an immediate suspension of the constraints under the Stability and Growth Pact until the return to normal health, economic and social conditions?

3. Does the Commission intend to launch a single European project for research and testing both for treatment and for an effective vaccine for COVID-19 and what financial resources does it intend to commit to support it?
