Priority question for written answer P-002476/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Elsi Katainen (Renew)
 Answer in writing
Subject: Supporting the recovery of the transport sector and the rail industry

The transport sector is one of the sectors that has been hit hardest by the COVID-19 outbreak. The rail industry has been particularly hard hit, with plants and large-scale production halted and customers directly impacted by travel restrictions. As we know, the rail sector is a key element of the European Green Deal and part of the solution for achieving the ambitious decarbonisation objectives set by the Commission. Commissioner Breton has stated that the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis must accelerate the green and digital transitions. Considering this, could the Commission say how it intends to support the recovery of low-carbon industries essential to the European Green Deal, such as the rail sector?
