Relocation of migrants in 2020

Rule 138

According to a number of Italian newspapers, a report by the Italian Ministry of the Interior stresses that in 2020 not one single migrant has been transferred from Italy to other EU countries. And in fact no migrants have been relocated over the last few months.
The data provided by the ministry show that, as of 26 June 2020, 6 576 people had arrived illegally by sea in Italy, not to mention the ‘ghost landings’ and the migrants illegally crossing the land border in Friuli Venezia Giulia. In this context, the total lack of ‘solidarity’ from other EU countries is incomprehensible, also in view of the Coronavirus emergency. Furthermore, there have been no statements with clear explanations from the Commission on what is happening.
It should be stressed that, according to the Commission and the European signatory countries, the Malta agreement was intended to overcome this problem, leading to a comprehensive European reception management policy.
In view of the above, will the Commission say:
- 1.Can it confirm that no migrants have been relocated from Italy to other countries in 2020?
- 2.How justifiable is this situation and what are the reasons for this lack of European Union support for Italy?
- 3.How will it address the reception of migrants in the next few months, given that arrivals by sea in Italy are increasing dramatically, causing serious management problems in the midst of the ongoing health emergency?
