Parliamentary questions

P-004115/2020
Priority question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Frances Fitzgerald (PPE)
Subject: Equivalence decisions in the context of EU-UK negotiations

The Political Declaration agreed between the EU and UK in October 2019 noted that both parties would endeavour to conclude equivalence assessments with respect to financial services before the end of June 2020. Unfortunately, EU negotiators have not received sufficient information to be able to complete the EU’s equivalence assessment work. The negotiations are now at a crucial point and there is a limited amount of time left.

Equivalence decisions in the area of financial services are very important. Can the Commission give an update on the expected timelines and approach for the equivalence assessments and decisions with respect to financial services?
