P-005013/2020
Priority question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Caroline Roose (Verts/ALE)
Subject: Granting of a licence by the German Government for electric pulse fishing

Regulation (EU) 2019/1241 (Technical Measures Regulation) provides that ‘fishing with electric pulse trawl shall be prohibited in all Union waters as of 1 July 2021’. The Regulation stipulates that ‘new licences shall not be granted to any vessel’ during the transitional period which comes to an end on 30 June 2021.

However, from information published in the specialist press (1) it would seem that Germany has granted the vessel ‘BRA 2 Butendiek ’ a new licence for use of this technique, which would constitute a clear breach of Regulation (EU) 2019/1241.

1. Is Germany’s granting of this licence compatible with Regulation (EU) 2019/1241?

2. If not, is the Commission considering taking measures against Germany?

3. What steps does the Commission take to ensure all Member States comply with this Regulation?
