Priority question for written answer  P-006268/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Paolo Borchia (ID)
Subject: Assistance from Just Transition Platform in drawing up territorial plans for Taranto and Sulcis

The purpose of the Just Transition Mechanism is to balance the anticipated social and economic impact of energy transition under the Green Deal strategy. Its objective is to facilitate the release of at least EUR 100 billion during the 2021-2027 programming period to support the regions most affected by this process. However, access to the above financial instruments is conditional on the drawing-up of specific territorial plans by the national authorities to identify the specific governance operations needed for the achievement of growth targets in areas particularly affected by the phasing out of high-emission manufacturing processes. On 29 June, the Commission launched a platform for public and private stakeholders in order to ensure that territorial plans were properly drawn up. In the meantime, the Italian Prime Minister’s Office has sent the Commission a preliminary document specifically concerning the Taranto and Sulcis territorial plans.

In view of this, can the Commission say what progress has been made in drawing up the plans for the above areas and what assistance the Italian Government has received from the Just Transition Platform?
