Request by the Spanish Government for an aid scheme for tourism

Priority question for written answer  P-002326/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
José Ramón Bauzá Díaz (Renew)

In response to two questions put to the Commission on 1 July 2020 and 23 September 2020, the Executive Vice-President of the Commission Margrethe Vestager confirmed that the Spanish Government had not yet applied to the European institutions for authorisation of a specific aid scheme for the tourism sector.

Spain’s tourism sector is still in dire straits; it is absolutely crucial that tourism businesses receive direct support; and the vaccination campaign is not expected to hit the desired target for 2021’s summer season. With all that in mind:

Does the Commission know whether the Spanish Government has yet finally applied for aid for the tourism sector with a view to alleviating the effects of the crisis?
