EU evacuation efforts in Afghanistan

Priority question for written answer P-004455/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Thijs Reuten (S&D)
The evacuation efforts of the EU and its Member States in Afghanistan took place in dramatic and chaotic circumstances. One month later, the Commission has not provided Parliament with a clear overview of how many people in Afghanistan were involved in EU missions. We need to know how many of them were evacuated and, more importantly, how many of them have been left behind.
- 1.What is the exact number of people who worked for the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL) – with and without family members – entitled to evacuation on the basis of their activities and vulnerability?
- 2.How many people were evacuated by EU services prior to the end of allied evacuation operations, and does the Commission have any insight into where they are now?
- 3.How many Afghans who worked for the EU (including their families) are still in Afghanistan, and does the Commission already have a clear plan to provide them with visas and bring them to safety in coordination with Member States?
