Rule 138
Marian-Jean Marinescu (PPE)
On 7 April 2020, the Council adopted the Mobility Package, a reform aimed at improving working conditions for drivers, introducing special rules for their posting in the international transport sector and updating provisions regarding access to the road haulage market.
It is also necessary to align the Mobility Package to the Green Deal and the ‘Fit for 55’ objectives adopted by the European Parliament, seeking a 55% cut in carbon emissions by 2035 and climate neutrality by 2050.
Under the Mobility Package, trucks are required to return to base at least once every eight weeks. However, the impact assessment ordered by the Commission reveals that this would effectively increase CO2. emissions. The Commission should accordingly remove this provision from the mobility package.
Given that its Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport has already drafted such a proposal, can the Commission explain why publication thereof has been delayed?
