Priority question for written answer P-000659/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Geert Bourgeois (ECR)
The UK Government has published a report entitled ‘The Benefits of Brexit’. While setting out few specific measures, it proclaims the ambition of becoming a science superpower in the fields of quantum technology, AI, medicines, etc.
It is planning to achieve this by, on the one hand, diverging from EU rules (financial regulation, clinical trials, agricultural subsidies, public procurement, data legislation, etc.) and, on the other, taking the lead in setting standards and engaging in emerging sectors not subject to regulation, such as genome editing, AI, etc.
- 1.Has the Commission analysed this report in detail or does it plan to do so?
- 2.What constructive proposals contained in the report will the Commission itself seek to implement in order to ensure EU competitiveness?
- 3.Does the Commission perceive any threat to EU competitiveness?
