Future of farming in the EU

Priority question for written answer P-001693/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Alexander Bernhuber (PPE)
In a study on the future of the European farming model, Parliament has found that some 6.4 million farms will cease operating by 2040[1].
- 1.Why is the Commission not acting to stop that development?
- 2.Does the Commission assume that possible conclusion of the free trade agreement with Mercosur will also have an impact on this negative trend regarding farm closures?
- 3.In view of these drastic figures, how does the Commission intend to ensure that farming will still be practised in all parts of the EU in 2040, and how, in accordance with Article 39 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, will food security continue to be guaranteed in the EU?
