Parliamentary question - P-002745/2022(ASW)Parliamentary question

Answer given by Mr Sinkevičius on behalf of the European Commission

    1. Guidance on sustainable treatment and use of quarry residues can be obtained from the ‘Best Available Techniques Reference Document for the Management of Waste from Extractive Industries in accordance with Directive 2006/21/EC’[1].

    2. Residues from quarries can be used in road construction, if the competent authority in the respective Member State classifies the residues as by-products or if these residues meet national end-of-waste criteria, if applicable.

    3. Member States may use EU funds to support circular economy initiatives and green investments, notably in the frame of regional development programmes. For Greece, EUR 881 million (EU funding including national contribution) are available in the 2021-27 programming period for circular economy purposes.
