Residues from slate extraction
27.7.2022
Priority question for written answer P-002745/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Maria Spyraki (PPE)
Slate extraction is a traditional activity in Greece, particularly in the Pilios region, where the new building regulations (NOK) require the systematic use of this material. A traditional extraction technique is used to avoid damaging the rock. However, it also produces large quantities of residue that could be used for other activities such as road construction.
Given that the circular economy and the reuse of materials are EU priorities under Circular Economy Action Plan 2.0:
- 1.Can the Commission say whether EU good practices could be applied here?
- 2.Do the Member States need to adopt specific legislation in order to incorporate such practices?
- 3.What financial instruments are available and what amount of EU funding can be channelled into the reuse of quarry residues and the environmental rehabilitation of the sites in question?
