EU-NATO cooperation: third joint declaration still awaited
1.12.2022
Priority question for written answer P-003903/2022
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Rule 138
Tom Vandenkendelaere (PPE)
Despite effective cooperation on the ground, criticism is now being expressed in both the EU and the US about failure to move forward with the announced measures that are necessary to achieve EU-NATO collaboration at political level. This foot-dragging is particularly noticeable regarding the long-awaited third joint declaration by the political leaders of both organisations, the envisaged roadmap for closer strategic cooperation and the holding of joint meetings between the North Atlantic Council and the EU Political and Security Committee.
- 1.Does the Commission share these concerns and the desire to step up the necessary political initiatives and incentives to strengthen and consolidate EU-NATO cooperation?
- 2.Why are these initiatives and incentives not yet forthcoming?
- 3.What is the Commission willing and able to do to help break this apparent deadlock?
