Answer given by High Representative/Vice-President Borrell i Fontelles on behalf of the European Commission
15.2.2023
The Commission considers the allegations to be very serious; it has zero tolerance for corruption and supports a thorough investigation of any alleged wrongdoing.
The Commission is awaiting the conclusions of the Belgian Federal judicial investigations against some members and staff of the European Parliament and the alleged involvement of third countries reported in the media.
The Commission also welcomes the commitment by the European Parliament to fully cooperate with the Belgian law enforcement authorities.
The High Representative/Vice-President has recently explained the Commission’s position, as set out above, to the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and they agreed on the need to fully support the ongoing investigations to provide maximum clarity.
