Commission action to help farmers affected by the increase in imports of cereals from Ukraine

Priority question for written answer  P-000566/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Beata Mazurek (ECR)

Imports of cereals from Ukraine have increased significantly over the past six months, especially with the entry into force of a Council regulation which removed customs barriers on imports of agri-food products from Ukraine.

These imports, in particular maize, wheat and rapeseed – and even sunflower seeds – are having an adverse impact in the regions of the EU bordering Ukraine.

Large quantities of cheaper, imported cereals are crowding out home-grown cereals which, owing to price pressures, cannot be sold and remain in storage, causing significant financial losses for the farmers affected.

With the above in mind, what action has the Commission taken, or what action does it intend to take, to address this problem?
