From 12.00 to 12.30, a formal sitting of Parliament was held on the occasion of the visit of Mr Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, President of the Italian Republic.

Carlo Azeglio Ciampi addressed the House.

Mario Borghezio, together with several other Italian members of the Northern League brandishing flags, shouted out, disrupting President Ciampi's address. Having tried unsuccessfully to call the those responsible for the disturbance to order, the President excluded them from the Chamber under Rule 146.
