1. Resumption of the session

The sitting opened at 15.00.


2. Statement by the President

The President made a statement to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Lithuanian independence movement, Sąjūdis, which had laid the foundations for the re-establishment of Lithuania's independence.

He also mentioned the Green Weeks that would be held in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg and drew attention to Parliament's undertakings to reduce CO2 emissions.


3. Welcome

On behalf of Parliament, the President welcomed members of a delegation of Bulgarian Orthodox clergy - led by the Metropolitan Galaktion of Stara Zagora - who had taken their seats in the distinguished visitors' gallery.

4. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting

The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

5. Composition of Parliament

The Italian authorities had given notice of the appointment of Elisabetta Gardini to replace Renato Brunetta and Giovanni Robusti to replace Umberto Bossi as Members of Parliament with effect from 30.05.2008.

The Greek authorities had given notice of the appointment of Kostantinos Droutsas to replace Diamanto Manolakou as Member of Parliament with effect from 03.06.2008.

In accordance with Rule 3(2), as their credentials had not been verified or a ruling given on any dispute, Elisabetta Gardini, Giovanni Robusti and Kostantinos Droutsas would take their seats in the European Parliament and its bodies and enjoy all the rights attaching thereto, provided that they had previously signed the declaration that they did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament.


6. Request for the defence of parliamentary immunity

Renato Brunetta, a former Member of the European Parliament, had addressed a request for defence of his privileges and immunities to the President, in relation to legal proceedings pending in Florence.

Under Rule 6(3), the request had been referred to the committee responsible, the JURI Committee.


7. Composition of committees and delegations

8. Corrigenda (Rule 204a)

The committees responsible had forwarded the following corrigenda to the texts adopted by the European Parliament:

Pursuant to Rule 204a, these corrigenda would be deemed approved unless, within 48 hours, a request was made by a political group or at least 40 Members that they be put to the vote.

The corrigenda were available on the Séance en direct site.

- Agreement between the European Community and the Government of Australia on certain aspects of air services;

- Protocol to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and Georgia, of the other part, to take account of the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union;

- Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and financial contribution provided for in the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau for the period 16 June 2007 to 15 June 2011;

- Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau for the period 16 June 2007 to 15 June 2011;
