Following the Council decision of 09.05.2008 to appoint Antonio Tajani as a member of the Commission and the European Parliament decision of 18.06.2008 applying Article 4 of the Framework Agreement between Parliament and the Commission and Rule 99 of its Rules of Procedure, Parliament, pursuant to Article 7(1) of the Act concerning the election of the members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage and to Rule 4(4), second subparagraph, of its Rules of Procedure, established the vacancy of Antonio Tajani's seat with effect from 09.05.2008 and informed the Italian authorities thereof.
