3. Composition of Parliament

Graham Booth had given notice of his resignation as an MEP with effect from 01.10.2008.

In line with Rule 4(1), Parliament established the vacancy as of the above-mentioned date and informed the national authorities concerned.

The Italian authorities had given notice of the following:

- the end of the term of office at the European Parliament of Giuseppe Castiglione on account of incompatibilities within the meaning of Article 7(3) of the Act of 20 September 1976 concerning the election of the Members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage;

- the election to the European Parliament, replacing Giuseppe Castiglione, of Maddalena Calia, second on the relevant list of replacements, following the decision by the first person on the list, Michele Cimino, not to take up his mandate as an MEP.

Parliament took note, with effect from 12.09.2008.

Under Rule 3(2), until such time as her credentials had been verified or a ruling had been given on any dispute, and provided that she had previously made a written declaration stating that she did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament, Maddalena Calia would take her seat in Parliament and on its bodies and would enjoy all the rights attaching thereto.
