The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.
3. Composition of Parliament
The Slovene authorities had informed Parliament of the election of Borut Pahor as a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia.
Under Article 7(2) of the Act concerning the election of representatives of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage and Rule 4(1) of its Rules of Procedure, Parliament noted this and established the vacancy with effect from 15.10.2008.

The Italian authorities had given notice of the appointment of Monica Giuntini to replace Lilli Gruber as Member of Parliament with effect from 17.10.2008.
Under Rule 3(2), until such time as her credentials had been verified or a ruling had been given on any dispute, and provided that she had previously made a written declaration stating that she did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament, Monica Giuntini would take her seat in Parliament and on its bodies and would enjoy all the rights attaching thereto.
4. Composition of committees and delegations
The President had received a request from the IND/DEM Group nominating Nigel Farage to replace Trevor Colman as a member of the INTA Committee.
