The President, in the light of the forthcoming entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, made a brief statement welcoming the reinforcement of cooperation between the EU institutions and emphasising that Parliament was ready to proceed with the hearings of the various commissioners-designate.
The President also said that 1 December would be World AIDS Day and that 10 December 2009 would mark the 61st anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
3. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting
Mario Mauro, Antigoni Papadopoulou and Carl Schlyter had made it known that they had been present but that their names were not on the attendance register.
The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

4. Parliamentary immunity
The Czech authorities had sent Parliament a renewed request to waive the parliamentary immunity of Miloslav Ransdorf in connection with events which had taken place in Prague on 8 June 2007.
Pursuant to Rule 6(2), the renewed request had been referred to the JURI Committee, which was the committee responsible.
5. Composition of committees and delegations
The President had received the following requests for appointments from the PPE Group:
Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia: Carmen Fraga Estévez had ceased to be a member as of 19 October 2009;
Special Committee on the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis : László Surján had ceased to be a member as of 22 October 2009.
