Olivier Chastel (President-in-Office of the Council) announced that Parliament had approved the Council's position on the 2011 draft budget without amendments and welcomed this result.
The President spoke as follows:
'This is the first time we have applied the procedure set down in the Treaty of Lisbon. The European Parliament has adopted the Council's position of 10 December 2010 on the draft general budget which was presented by the Commission on 26 November 2010. The budgetary procedure was completed in accordance with Article 314 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. In accordance with this article and point 4(a) thereof, I declare that the budget for the financial year 2011 has been definitively adopted.'
