32. Request for the defence of parliamentary immunity
Viktor Uspaskich had sent the President of the European Parliament a request for a review of the decision of the European Parliament of 7 September 2010 to waive his parliamentary immunity, on account of developments in his case.
Under Rule 6(3), the request had been referred to the committee responsible, the JURI Committee.

At its meeting on 20 June 2011, the Committee on Legal Affairs had discussed the letter from Mr Nigel Farage to the President of the European Parliament in which, citing Rule 6 of the Rules of Procedure, he complained about the handling of the issue of parliamentary immunities in Europe.
By 11 votes to 3, with 1 abstention, the Committee on Legal Affairs concluded that, as it did not pertain to a specific case of parliamentary immunity, Mr Farage's request was inadmissible.
