The President made a statement on the recent initiatives taken by the EU to fight the economic crises and a statement on the outcome of the Libyan conflict.
The following spoke: Guy Verhofstadt, on behalf of the ALDE Group, who mentioned a visit to Parliament by the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, the following day and suggested that he should also meet the ECON Committee, Rebecca Harms, on behalf of the Verts/ALE Group, who supported the suggestion of Guy Verhofstadt, Mario Mauro, on behalf of the PPE Group, and Werner Langen (the President pointed out that this was not an official visit).
The President reminded Parliament of the following day's visit by Bronisław Komorowski, President of the Republic of Poland.
The President announced that Parliament would take part in the UN's International Democracy Day on 15 September 2011.
The President condemned the violence to which Sajjad Karim MEP had been subjected on 2 July 2011 and expressed his support.
