The President said that at the beginning of voting time he would express his condolences to the families of the victims of the coach accident the previous evening in Switzerland, which had resulted in many deaths, including 22 children.

2. Composition of Parliament
The Finnish authorities had given notice of the election of Petri Sarvamaa to replace Risto E.J. Penttilä as Member of Parliament with effect from 1 March 2012.
Under Rule 3(2), until such time as his credentials had been verified or a ruling had been given on any dispute, and provided that he had previously made a written declaration stating that he did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament, Petri Sarvamaa would take his seat in Parliament and on its bodies and would enjoy all the rights attaching thereto.

The President made a statement on the Belgian coach crash in Switzerland on Tuesday evening, 13 March, in which at least 28 people had been killed, including 22 children. He expressed his condolences to the victims' families.
