5. Sakharov Prize 2012 (announcement of winners)

The President announced that, at its meeting the previous day, the Conference of Presidents had decided unanimously to award the the Sakharov Prize 2012 to the Iranian militants Nasrin Sotoudeh and Jafar Panahi.

The following spoke: Martin Callanan, on the forthcoming visit by the Delegation for relations with Iran to that country (the President pointed out that the Delegation's visit had been approved by the Conference of Presidents), and Barbara Lochbihler, on the same subject.

The Prize would be awarded at the December 2012 part-session in Strasbourg.
