8. Request for the waiver of parliamentary immunity

The German authorities had written to the President requesting that the parliamentary immunity of Jürgen Creutzmann be waived in connection with legal proceedings pending before the public prosecutor's office in Frankenthal.

Pursuant to Rule 6(2), the request had been referred to the committee responsible, the JURI Committee.

10. Statement by the President

The President made a statement on the situation in southern Algeria. He roundly condemned the taking of hostages and the killing of a British citizen. He expressed his condolences to the victim's family and expressed solidarity with the families of the hostages before stating that he hoped that the conflict could be resolved peacefully.
