5.1. Election of the European Ombudsman (vote)

The President said that she had received the nomination of Emily O'Reilly and reminded the House of the provisions of Rule 219 and the voting arrangements.

The President established that more than half the Members were present and the election could therefore be held.

The vote was taken by secret ballot (569 in favour, 66 against, 43 abstentions).

The list of Members voting is annexed to these Minutes.

The President announced that EMILY O'REILLY had been elected European Ombudsman (P8_TA(2014)0073). He congratulated her and invited her to take her oath before the Court of Justice, in accordance with Rule 219(7).
