The President made a statement stressing the exceptional nature of this plenary sitting, which had been called in accordance with Rule 146(4), second subparagraph, following the UK referendum of 23 June, the outcome of which was of concern to all European citizens.

He expressed his thanks to all British members of Parliament's administration for the work they had carried out over four decades.

He paid tribute to the decision of Jonathan Hill to accept the consequences of the British vote by withdrawing from the Commission, and thanked him for his commitment.
