IN THE CHAIR: Rainer WIELAND
Vice-President

9. Composition of Parliament

The French authorities had given notice that Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon had been elected as Members of the national parliament with effect from 19 June 2017.

The House took note that, under Article7(2) of the Act concerning the election of the Members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage, that office was incompatible with Membership of the European Parliament, and established the vacancy of their seats as of that date.

The French authorities had also given notice that Christelle Lechevalier and Marie-Pierre Vieu had been elected Members of the European Parliament, to replace Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon respectively, with effect from 19 June 2017.

Parliament took note of their election.

Under Rule 3(2), until such time as his credentials had been verified or a ruling had been given on any dispute, and provided that they had previously made a written declaration stating that they did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament, Christelle Lechevalier and Marie-Pierre Vieu would take their seats in Parliament and on its bodies and would enjoy all the rights attaching thereto.
