9. Sakharov Prize 2017 (announcement of the winners)

The President announced that the Conference of Presidents had decided to award the 2017 Sakharov Prize to the Democratic Opposition in Venezuela: the National Assembly represented by its President, Julio Borges and all political prisoners as listed by Foro Penal Venezolano (the Venezuelan Penal Forum) represented by Leopoldo López, Antonio Ledezma, Daniel Ceballos, Yon Goicoechea, Lorent Saleh, Alfredo Ramos and Andrea González.

The award ceremony would take place in Strasbourg during the December 2017 part-session.

The President announced that he had received the nomination of Heidi Hautala.

As Heidi Hautala was the only candidate, the President proposed that the Chamber elect her by acclamation, pursuant to Rule 15(1).

The President declared Heidi Hautala Vice-President of the European Parliament and congratulated her on her election.

Pursuant to Rule 20(1), Heidi Hautala would take the place of the outgoing Vice-President, Ulrike Lunacek, in the order of precedence.
